Mehendi - short animation

My mother claims that I get all my smarts and creativity from my dad. I wanted this film to be an ode to the support she has shown and still shows in my journey as an artist. I watched the film "The Colour Purple" which forced me to think about the unseen effort and support provided by women in families. My mom putting five dots and two squiggly lines on the back of my hand was my introduction to mark making. Her support for my art continued as she let me draw on walls, experiment in every wayand persuaded my father to let me leave engineering. I decided to capture an impression of the comfort of her presence in my life by visualising the memory of her putting mehendi on my hands as a child.
Mehendi is also a habit that I continued after I moved away from home and has been an activity to give me a sense of relaxation and enjoyment in making art on my hands.

The script for the film is a small clip of my mom telling me a story she used to tell me as a child taken from a call recording.
“Joon, joon, katthe chaali?”
(Oh little louse, where are you headed to?)
“Saag todba”)
(To pluck some vegetables!)
“kaiiyaan se todegi?”
(How will you pluck them?)
“khudurrr khudurrr”
“Kaiyaan se banavugi?” “Aur Kaiyaan se khaawaegi?”
(How will you cook them?) (How will you eat them?)
“Khadbad khadbad” "Sarrpat Sarrpat!!!"
